leMook 11

UBC Literature Etc.
Art Director
Summer 2007

The 11th issue of leMook is also my first issue as the art director. Prior to this volume, leMook was printed only in black and white (excluding the cover), and focused heavily on the literary content while giving little attention to the art direction. Luckily, Dreamism was the topic, and thus it corresponded to our goal of a colourful and artistically rich leMook. This is our pioneer, the first issue to have colour pages.

UBC Literature Etc. was founded in the summer of 2002 by Elisa Chiu, a former undergraduate student at UBC, passionate in all aspects of art. She particularly wanted to collect Chinese literary works from all around the globe and publish a semi-annual magazine (April, September) based in Vancouver, now named "leMook", that is completely written, illustrated, and designed by students. Today, this publication has become the basis for our club.

Paper Swatch Book
Ever Green?

Rolland Enviro 100, Print II
Designer & Illustrator
Fall 2007

The task was to create a functional paper swatch book for the new Rolland Enviro 100 paper stocks. My approach was to sell the paper on the actual paper with interesting, engaging, playful and humourous illustrations along with creative phrases emphasizing on a ridiculous imaginary world without trees.

"If one day, no trees are left: Lumberjacks will be unemployed, and for those who can only operate a chainsaw may have to immigrate to Texas."

Annual Report
Ours

Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Print II
Designer, Photographer
Fall 2007

"Welcome to the newly redesigned Annual Report for 2006. No more boring and ill-divided contents and disastrous layouts. Ours is triggered from the voices, the emotions and the feelings of people - where each park lies in our hearts, and where each community centre plays a role in our daily lives."

This is a redesign of Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation’s 2006 Annual Report. The concept is to show more personal connection with the parks and recreation facilties. The newly designed annual report showcases expressive postcards and quotes on transparency hinting how much the parks play a role in our lives.
